Academics
The curriculum of St. Thomas Aquinas School complies with the academic requirements as set forth by the Catholic Diocese of Dallas, the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department and the Texas Education Agency.
We are very excited about our new model of learning, Integrated Thematic Instruction (ITI). This research-based school improvement program focuses on creating responsible citizens and the implementation of instructional techniques which are more compatible with how the brain learns. It will work in conjunction with the teaching of the Diocesan curriculum and with our St. Thomas Aquinas mission statement of educating and valuing the whole child.
To see some supporting research for the ITI program, please view: http://www.kovalik.com/research.htm and Anderson Paper. Other excellent resources about brain-based learning include Human Brain & Human Learning, by Leslie Hart, and Teaching with the Brain in Mind, by Eric Jensen. And finally, you might be interested in reading Character Begins at Home: Using the ITI Lifelong Guidelines and Lifeskills in Your Home by Sue Pearson and Karen Olsen. We hope these materials will provide you with more information about this wonderful program.
