Safe Environment

Mandated by the Diocese of Dallas – April 2005

Please Remember: All parents who wish to visit the school during school hours or volunteer are required to complete the St. Thomas Aquinas Safe Environment Program. Parents must have a volunteer badge which is required to be worn while visiting the school. Thank you to all parents for working together to keep a safe environment for our children.

Safe Environment Procedures for First Time Applicants:
*Read the Diocesan Safe Environment Handbook and the accompanying Policy on Sexual Misconduct.  Once you have familiarized yourself with the Diocesan policies, please sign the acknowledgement form on page 15.

*Fill out the Screening Form completely including social security number and date of birth.

*Please return the signed page 15 of the Diocesan Safe Environment Handbook with the completed Screening Form to St. Thomas Aquinas School.

*Make arrangements to attend a Safe Environment Training class.  These are offered periodically at the St. Thomas. Please do not bring children to the session. Please do not arrive late to the session. Latecomers will be asked to come on another date. Go to the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish website and then to the Safe Environment section to submit your paperwork online. The schedule for training at St. Thomas is as follows:

*Have a picture ID made if necessary.  This is done at the parish.  Photos are taken at the training classes.

*New volunteers must wait 6 months from the date the written documentation is returned before receiving their badge.

Safe Environment Procedures for Renewing Applicants:
*Renew Safe Environment Training each year, with the year beginning in August. This is done by completing the Annual Awareness Update Training. The current volunteer badge is green. Please go to the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish website and complete the update training if needed.

*Once verification of attendance is completed, you will receive a renewal sticker to place on your Photo ID Badge.

*If badge is lost, a new badge must be made through the St. Thomas Aquinas Church office at the cost of the applicant.

Please contact Margaret Furyk, Safe Environment Coordinator, at safesta@gmail.com or (214) 821-3360 with any questions.
