Donna Lestage
Welcome to PK! I'm Teacher Donna. Each preschool school day is fun and exciting. I want each child in my classroom family to develop a love for learning that lasts throughout their school years. After being an all-grades substitute teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas for two years I became a PK3 teacher five years ago. I bring many experiences to the classroom from my first career in daily newspaper journalism. I learned something with every assignment and won a few awards along the way. I earned an Associate of Arts from Tyler Junior college and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. I thought I might teach reporting at a college.
As it turns out, I teach PK3, which, like journalism, is loaded with curiosity. "Teacher Donna, what are we going to do with that egg?" "We're going to see my grandpa. Where is Kansas?" "When is snack time?" "Why did the computer screen turn black?" To prepare to answer those questions and draw out more inquiry, I found mentors at Eastfield College while earning my education credits and in my experienced colleagues at St. Thomas Aquinas Preschool.
I attended St. Peter Chanel Interparochial School in Paulina, Louisiana and Winnsboro, Texas public schools. My first teachers were my parents who raised my brother, three sisters and me in a nurturing environment. As I learned from them, I teach my students to love God, respect others and always do your best.
I'm an extrovert, which means I get my energy from being with others. You can see how that serves me well teaching preschool. I power up each morning when I greet my class. I can't resist a conversation but I appreciate some quiet time alone in my garden after a busy day.
I've made the last 19 years of my life's journey with my husband, Jim Rossman. We are Eucharistic ministers at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and together we enjoy the arts, Dallas Stars Hockey and casual bicycling.
I look forward to another rewarding year at St. Thomas Aquinas.
