Kim Garner
My name is Kim Garner. I am a 6th grade science and religion teacher. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1989, and I am certified to teach grades pre-K through 6th grade. I previously taught 2nd grade and kindergarten at St. Thomas, as well as two years as a kindergarten teacher in DISD.
As parishioners, my family and I have been actively involved in this community for over fifteen years. St. Thomas holds a very special place in my heart. It was here that I converted to Catholicism in 1998 and watched my two daughters mature and grow as they attended school here. I am so proud to be a member of the faculty at St. Thomas Aquinas. In this atmosphere of supportive parents, faculty camaraderie, advanced curriculum, and Christian values, I feel I can achieve my goals of providing the best learning environment, both spiritually and intellectually.
I have always had a great love for science, and I am blessed to be a part of the best Science department in the Diocese. Science labs at St. Thomas begin in kindergarten. By the time the students reach 6th grade, they have the foundation needed to explore chemistry and physics at a higher level. In my science lab, students have all the materials available to them to explore chemical and physical changes, Newtons Laws, simple machines, power plants, energy transformations, solar power, electricity, and magnetism.
