This will be my eighth year teaching art at the upper school to grades three through eight. I have a B.F.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Masters in Secondary and Higher Education from Texas A&M University Commerce/Metroplex, and I am certified to teach art grades K though 12. My earliest memories are of art. I was always drawing, painting or doing some type of craft, but my greatest influence into the love of art was traveling with my family. My father was an engineer whose work took him all over the world, and I was fortunate that I was able to share these adventures with my mother and brothers. These travels helped me to see the connections between religion, history, music, math, science, art, and cultures. It profoundly shaped who I became and how I teach today. I feel blessed to be able to share this knowledge with the fantastic students at St. Thomas. Besides creating art, my favorite thing is spending time with my two incredible children. I also love anything to do with the outdoors and nature, and I truly enjoy reading. I wanted to share this quote for all my art students, because I think it expresses how finding the way to see and look differently at problems is the path to finding the answers. I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. -Michelangelo
