STA hired a Security Director this year and has uniformed Dallas Police officers who maintain a visual presence on both campuses most days of the week. STA maintains a close communicative relationship with Dallas Police officers and with the Northeast Dispatch Station. 

• STA is a closed campus. All exterior doors always remain locked with one monitored main entrance on each campus. 
• STA has hired Raul Galvan Jr. as our School Security Director to oversee security at both the Lower School and Upper School each day.
• STA continues to foster our relationship with the Dallas Police Department and other local law enforcement organizations. 
• ID badges are required for all students, staff, visitors, vendors, and volunteers.
• STA uses an electronic communication/notification system to notify our community of emergencies.
• STA utilizes the Standard Response Protocol (SRP).
• A comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) guides our response to emergency situations at each campus. The STA Crisis Management Plan is site-specific and shared with our local law enforcement liaisons.
• Our Crisis Management Teams are trained to implement emergency procedures and participate in practice drills throughout the year.
• The school uses Raptor, a school safety software, that enables the school to screen visitors, track volunteers, report on drills, and help respond to emergencies.
• The school routinely conducts, reviews, and reinforces our emergency response training and drills, including video-based safety and security training for all employees.
• Portable emergency kits are provided for all classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Youth Mental Health First Aid training is provided for school staff.

STA has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all-hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol.

The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Drills are held quarterly on each campus.

Students are issued badges each school year and are worn as part of the uniform. Faculty, staff and parents are issued badges after completing annual safe environment training that must be worn on campus.

Visitors and outside contractors are given temporary ID badges after being screened through RAPTOR safety software.

Knowing who is on campus is an important part of our school safety program. STA utilizes Pik My Kid, a parent initiated app, along with Raptor to know which students, volunteers, and visitors are on campus and who is picking up children during after school release.

Our Crisis Management Team is essential in maintaining a cohesive and updated Crisis Management and Reunification plan for both campuses. Our team consists of  faculty and staff who train throughout the school year for any event that occurs on campus and include administrative staff, nurses and department heads.

In case of emergency, STA will employ its text messaging system and email communications through FACTS to reach parents/guardians (or other family members) listed as the student’s emergency contact. These are tested at the beginning of each year.

It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:

• Failed to secure the firearm; or
• Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access

The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).

Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax.
